Richard Revisited A Novel about Shakespeare and Richard III edition by Els Launspach Laura Vroomen Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

If Shakespeare is your only source for information about Richard III, you'll find this book to be an interesting introduction to the latest research. Richard wasn't the monster Shakespeare portrayed him as, and things didn't happen as they did in the play. Check out this book and learn some history...
I have long thought that Richard III has been unfairly accused of the little prince's murders so I am always happy to read a well thought out defense of this king who, in all ways, seemed to have made a good monarch. It was an enjoyable read. For those who would like more about Richard III I would recommend "Daughter of Time" by Josephine Tey.
This is an odd novel, but as a history buff, I found it engrossing. It is kind of a disjointed read, plunging from historical period to period as it does, but it well presents the view that Richard III was misrepresented by the Tudors and thus immortalized as a tyrant by Shakespeare - the story that stuck.
This is delicious reading! This is all about Richard III and exceptional and long standing controversy - was he guilty or not guilty in murder case. Here is a creative and captivating story you will enjoy and at the same time here is the HISTORY - truthful and straightforward account of events, recorded in a good faith.
My personal vote is that Richard III was a good king though his reign was brief.
"Noble, honorable men, are there any left?"
A historical novel with a who done it twist. This is a fascinating book that I couldn't put down. This period in history has always interested me. As an American citizen with deep English roots I've always been interested in this period of history. Th books does jump around a little but then that just ads to the page turning quality of the story. Fact and fiction are woven seamlessly into the plot and the reader is left to discern which is which. Fascinating and compelling for anyone who has even a mild interest in the Todors and this period in history. Recommended highly.
I am an independent scholar in this area of history, and I don't remember the last time I've read such an interesting book. I wish I could give it ten stars! The author uses three known authors of the story of Richard III and turns the book into a very enticing mystery, asking the questions we've always wanted to ask. Varying points of view are brilliantly presented, and since Richard's skeleton has been discovered just a few years ago, the timing of this book is great. I found, as I read this terrific writing, that I could take off my historian blinders and just enjoy this really good read. I could go into detail that would make everyone except Richard historians fall asleep, so I won't. But I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a juicy history about the last Plantagenet and his famous family.
First class scholarship, riveting story-line, excellent authorship.
It is difficult to speak too highly of this novel especially after the first few pages when I thought to myself "Oh dear, I know how this is going to go." I couldn't have been more wrong. I know the period quite well and have a firm opinion about the last Plantagenet and the first Tudor monarch, so for me to find it as gripping a read as i did came as a very pleasant surprise!
The historical detail is as accurate as it can be given the period. The author uses artistic license only to allow the reader to observe the personal lives of some of the characters as part of the story-line. She does it in such a way that the reader gets an insight into Thomas More's mind, what he thought and how his sense of morals imposed itself on his recollections of what he did. We get to look over George Buc's shoulder as he divides his time between his work and his family - the descriptions are perfect. And then the court scene - read it.
The author writes in such a way that you become part of the narrative - a super touch.
Finally the glossary is comprehensive and, if you are interested in the who's who of the time, almost worth the buying the book just for that.
Well done!
